Epidemiologic Alert
Hermosillo, December 18, 2009, 13:00 Hrs.
Following a health alert regarding 30 cases of necrotizing periodontal disease linked to the use of lidocaine with epinephrine 2% in 1.8 ml. vials from Unipharma labs, issued by Dental Surgeons from the Mexican state of Aguascalientes in the country’s central region, Sonora has issued a health alert. Identified lots of the implicated medication to date include 8JRHN and 8KLPP.
Sonora’s health authorities recommend:
Disseminate the alert to all health care services for the immediate suspension of use of the referenced drug until further notice.
Notify all pharmacies and clinics to which the drug may have been distributed to ensure halting further distribution.
Report to the Epidemiology Surveillance Unit whether the drugs were found in any of its jurisdictions and measures taken by the jurisdictional authorities.
Since people commonly seek medical treatment in Sonora, to include dental care, please consider travel history in cases of necrotizing periodontal disease.
